Cargo Truck Fire Shuts Indus Highway in DI Khan

A cargo truck caught fire on the Indus Highway in Dera Ismail Khan district on Monday morning, forcing authorities to close the road and triggering long queues of vehicles on both sides of the affected route. The incident occurred at Maahra near Dhora Solahn Adda in Paroa tehsil, a busy transport corridor used by passenger vehicles, goods carriers and intercity traffic.

According to rescue sources, the vehicle was a trailer loaded with cloth when the fire broke out suddenly. The flames spread rapidly and thick smoke rose over the area, causing panic among commuters and nearby residents as the blaze intensified within moments.

Officials said traffic on the highway was completely suspended while rescue teams reached the scene and began efforts to bring the fire under control. The closure created immediate disruption for travellers, transporters and commercial vehicles moving through the district, with authorities advising people to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Rescue authorities confirmed that no loss of life had been reported at the time of the initial response. However, significant financial losses were feared because the trailer was carrying cloth, a highly flammable cargo that can burn quickly and make firefighting more difficult once flames spread through the load.
