The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has launched enforcement action against state-owned enterprises after identifying widespread non-compliance with core corporate obligations. ProPakistani reported that the regulator issued 66 show-cause notices to 41 SOEs over failures tied to annual reporting, audited accounts and governance procedures.
According to the SECP, 33 enterprises did not submit audited financial statements, 26 failed to file annual returns and seven did not hold Annual General Meetings. The commission has scheduled hearings for the entities concerned and said penalties may follow once legal proceedings are completed.
