The State Bank of Pakistan has announced that banks will remain closed on Monday, March 23, on account of Pakistan Day. The holiday follows the federal government’s declaration of a public holiday for the national observance.
Geo News reported that the closure will effectively extend the break around Eid ul Fitr, as March 20 and 21 have already been notified as Eid holidays and March 22 falls on a Sunday. This means bank staff and customers should plan financial transactions in advance.
The report also noted that Pakistan Day commemorates the adoption of the Lahore Resolution in 1940, a milestone in the movement for a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent.
