Punjab’s mass transit authority has approved a fare increase for metro bus services operating in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan. Under the revised structure, the standard fare on the Red Metro Bus routes will rise to Rs40 per trip, with the change scheduled to take effect on March 26, 2026.
Officials said the adjustment was made to cope with higher operating expenses and to sustain service quality across the network. At the same time, the authority announced that passengers using the Green Transport Card will continue to receive relief, paying Rs25 per trip instead of the full revised fare.
The increase is expected to add pressure on regular commuters who depend on public transport every day. Authorities have framed the discounted card option as a partial cushion for frequent riders as costs continue to climb.
