Pakistan's Foreign Office condemned the continued closure of Srinagar's historic Jama Masjid on the last Friday of Ramadan, calling the move a serious breach of religious freedom and fundamental human rights in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In its statement, Islamabad said worshippers were prevented from offering congregational prayers at one of the valley's most revered mosques during a spiritually significant day. It described the restriction as especially troubling because it came during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Foreign Office said this marked the seventh consecutive year that the mosque remained sealed on the occasion since India's actions of August 5, 2019. Pakistan urged the United Nations and international human rights bodies to take notice and press for the protection of religious freedoms in the disputed territory.
