Suparco said the new moon of Shawwal is expected to be born on March 19 at 06:23 PST. It added that by sunset that day, the moon’s age and visibility window would make crescent sighting unlikely across Pakistan, including the coastal belt.
Based on those astronomical calculations, the agency said the first of Shawwal is expected to fall on Saturday, March 21. However, it stressed that the final declaration will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which remains the official body for moon-sighting decisions in Pakistan.
The report comes as the country continues observing Ramadan after the first fast was announced on February 19. As with all lunar months, the exact beginning and end remain subject to crescent visibility and the committee’s formal ruling.
