Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced a fuel relief package for motorcycle users after the federal government sharply raised petroleum prices. The provincial administration said the measure is meant to cushion ordinary commuters from the immediate impact of higher transport costs.
Under the plan, between 1.4 million and 1.6 million registered motorcycle owners could receive Rs2,200 each in two instalments of Rs1,100. The chief minister also said Bus Rapid Transit fares would not be increased, while a separate support package for farmers is expected to follow.
During a press conference, Afridi strongly criticised the federal decision, arguing that the size of the fuel increase would hit low-income households, transport users and growers the hardest. However, officials did not provide a detailed distribution mechanism, timeline or verification framework for how the subsidy would be delivered.
