PM Shehbaz in Vienna for talks with Austria, IAEA and UN bodies

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Vienna for a two-day official visit aimed at expanding Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic engagement with Austria and key multilateral institutions.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier and his delegation were received at Vienna International Airport, where a contingent of the Austrian Armed Forces presented a salute.

During the visit, the prime minister is scheduled to meet Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker to review bilateral ties, with discussions expected to focus on trade, investment and broader economic cooperation.

The Foreign Office said Shehbaz will also hold meetings with senior officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as UN entities including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the UN Industrial Development Organisation, with the agenda spanning peaceful nuclear cooperation, counter-narcotics and crime control, and sustainable industrial development.

The delegation accompanying the prime minister includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch. The visit is being described as the first by a Pakistani prime minister to Austria in more than three decades.
