Former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa is in stable condition after fainting due to a heart-related conduction issue that led to a fall and head injury, according to a family source.
The source said Bajwa became unwell on February 9, later experienced nausea, and fainted after vomiting. He was taken to the Combined Military Hospital shortly afterward. Medical assessments reportedly found hairline skull fractures, but no brain clots.
Doctors attributed the episode to a third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block, linked to the heart’s electrical system. The source said a temporary pacemaker is currently in place, and a permanent pacemaker is planned. Despite sedation for recovery, the source added that Bajwa is conscious and recognizes family members.
A separate update from the military’s media wing was cited as confirming he is receiving treatment, while urging the public to avoid circulating unverified claims about his health.
