Sanaullah warns negligence in Imran’s treatment would be criminal

ISLAMABAD: PML-N Senator Rana Sanaullah said in the Senate on Friday that if it were established that medical treatment was deliberately withheld from PTI founder Imran Khan, it would amount to criminal negligence and could not be defended.

Sanaullah, who also serves as the prime minister’s adviser on public and political affairs, cautioned the opposition against turning Khan’s health into a political battleground, arguing that details had already been placed before the Supreme Court.

His remarks followed a court-linked report in which Khan was quoted as saying his vision in the right eye had fallen sharply. Sanaullah referred to a report submitted to the Supreme Court by PTI counsel Salman Safdar after meeting Khan in Adiala Jail.

Addressing claims that the eye issue had gone untreated for months, Sanaullah said Khan first raised the complaint in the first week of January. He said jail medical staff provided eye drops initially and that examinations and tests followed in mid-to-late January, including another evaluation by a medical team and an injection later in the month.

He said the record could be shared with the opposition leader if needed, adding that jail doctors examined Khan frequently and that external doctors had also assessed him multiple times. Sanaullah maintained that portraying the matter as a long delay was political framing rather than an accurate account of the timeline.
