Supreme Court declines immediate meeting request with Imran Khan

The Supreme Court has declined a request seeking an immediate meeting with jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, saying the court cannot issue such directions without first notifying the government.

The request was raised by PTI leader Latif Khosa during proceedings. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi observed that any order regarding access or meetings would require prior notice and that the petition must first clear objections related to maintainability.

While turning down the demand for immediate relief, the court issued notice to the government for a subsequent hearing, signalling that the matter would be taken up after procedural requirements are addressed.

During the hearing, the chief justice also indicated the case may have become infructuous, noting that it stems from an earlier order dating back to August 24, 2023. He pointed out that related issues are also pending before other courts, and that the Supreme Court would need to determine whether the petition can still be pursued.

The report noted that PTI has held protests in recent months over access to Imran Khan and issues linked to his custody and medical information. It also referenced a recent Supreme Court communication stating that PTI’s concerns, submitted through a memorandum, had again been conveyed to the relevant executive authorities for consideration under the law.
