NDC urges independent medical board for Imran Khan, seeks doctor access

ISLAMABAD: The National Dialogue Committee (NDC), a forum of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and allied politicians, has said it is alarmed by what it describes as mounting risks to PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan’s health.

In a statement issued after a meeting in Islamabad, the group said the government’s acknowledgement regarding an eye procedure has intensified concerns. The NDC called for an immediate, independent medical board to be formed and demanded that Imran Khan be allowed to consult his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan.

The committee also asked that meetings with family members and his sons be facilitated, arguing that transparency would help address public anxiety and counter reputational damage to Pakistan on issues of fundamental rights and due process.

The NDC criticised the federal and Punjab governments’ handling of the matter, accusing them of politicising health issues and applying unequal standards compared with past cases involving other political figures. It warned that any harm to Imran Khan’s health would place responsibility on the ruling coalition and said it reserves the right to pursue legal action.

The group further objected to remarks attributed to opposition leader Mahmood Achakzai about the seriousness of the jailed leader’s condition, alleging that such comments align with the government’s position. The NDC urged PTI and opposition forces to jointly consider a protest sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s House.
