Actor and activist Ashley Judd has revisited parts of her filmography and said some earlier projects reflect a harmful, outdated view of women.
Speaking in a recent interview, Judd said that while she still recognises the craft and impact of Michael Mann’s crime classic Heat, she no longer feels comfortable with how women were written and framed in the story. She described reassessing her roles through a lens shaped by years of advocacy work.
Judd also pointed to Kiss the Girls as another example of a film she now views critically, arguing that depictions centred on sexual violence and torture should not be treated as entertainment and that calling such narratives “resilience” can obscure the deeper structures that enable harm.
