Kundi warns KP may face governor’s rule without federal coordination

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said the Constitution provides for imposing governor’s rule and warned it could be used if the provincial administration fails to work in tandem with federal authorities.

In remarks aired on Geo Pakistan, Kundi argued that security operations and law-and-order management require close coordination with the Centre. He criticised the KP government’s record on countering terrorism and drug trafficking, and questioned spending on policing, training and equipment.

Kundi urged Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to focus on governance challenges in his home district and the wider province while backing intelligence-based operations. He also pushed back on calls to limit the military’s role in the province, saying the civilian set-up cannot sustain security on its own.

Separately, Information Minister Atta Tarar said governor’s rule is considered when a provincial government is not delivering, citing law-and-order lapses and the prevalence of non-custom-paid vehicles in KP. He added that public appetite for anti-army rhetoric is fading.
