Senior figures within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) privately acknowledge that a series of harsh posts from Imran Khan’s X account against the military leadership helped provoke the Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR) stinging public response on Friday, party sources told Geo News.

Insiders said many PTI leaders disagree with the tone and content of the jailed founder’s messaging but have little influence over strategy or social media output, which largely reflects directives from Adiala jail. Some in the party want to lower the temperature, they added, yet their advice has not prevailed.

At his press briefing, ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry did not name Khan but labeled the PTI founder a national security threat and castigated the party’s rhetoric as anti-state. PTI leaders described the remarks as evidence of deepening tensions while conceding the party’s own language had escalated the confrontation.

The discussion within PTI underscores internal divisions over how to engage the establishment and whether to recalibrate online messaging amid mounting criticism.
