ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar urged renewed regional cooperation, saying South Asian peace cannot rest on deterrence alone. Addressing the Islamabad Conclave 2025, he warned that global conflicts threaten stability and said Pakistan had demonstrated resolve during a tense episode with India in May.
He highlighted climate shocks, food insecurity and inequality as shared challenges that require cross-border solutions in water management, disaster response and climate-smart agriculture. Dar reiterated support for diplomacy, multilateralism and a just resolution of disputes — including Gaza and Kashmir — under international law.
He called for removing barriers hobbling Saarc’s functioning, arguing that connectivity and economic synergy should replace confrontation to unlock the region’s potential.
