At a farewell ceremony at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said a strong national defence is an essential pillar of security in today’s strategic environment. He thanked the armed forces for their sacrifices and paid tribute to fallen personnel and their families.
According to the military’s media wing, a Guard of Honour was presented to the outgoing CJCSC, who completes four decades of service. The event was attended by former CJCSCs and senior tri-services officers.
Under reforms following the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Mirza is set to be the last CJCSC, with the military leadership structure transitioning to a Chief of Defence Forces role after his retirement.
