ISLAMABAD/CHINIOT: Prime Minister's Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said the government will bring the 28th Constitutional Amendment to parliament soon, expressing confidence it will be passed.
Speaking to reporters, he said the draft focuses on strengthening local governments, updating the National Finance Commission (NFC) framework and improving the health sector. Consultations are underway and, if consensus is reached, the bill will be tabled, he added.
Sanaullah also addressed recent resignations by two Supreme Court judges and one Lahore High Court judge following the passage of the 27th Amendment. He argued that parliament has the authority to legislate while judges are oath-bound to uphold constitutional decisions, and said it does not befit judges to engage in political protest.
Recalling the 27th Amendment, he noted the creation of a Federal Constitutional Court with equal provincial representation and clarified that the Chief of Army Staff would also serve as Chief of Defence Forces under the updated framework.
