Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman criticised the Sindh government over deteriorating civic services in Karachi, pledging to rid the city of land grabbing and what he termed a corrupt system.
Addressing a ceremony, he said residents were receiving hefty e-challans despite broken roads and failing transport, and accused authorities of neglecting key projects for years. He also claimed the PPP manipulated local body polls and delayed devolution of powers to towns.
Rehman alleged garbage collection remained inefficient despite fees collected from citizens and said JI representatives were overseeing stalled schemes because of poor governance. He demanded an end to political interference and corruption.
Responding to the remarks, Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed rejected the allegations as propaganda, insisting Karachi is progressing under PPP leadership and arguing JI's own town chairmen had underperformed.
