Security forces thwarted an attempted infiltration from Afghanistan into Pakistan’s Bajaur district, killing four militants including a high-value Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) figure, the military’s media wing said. The operation took place overnight between October 29 and 30 after troops detected movement along the border.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the dead included Amjad alias Mazahim — described as second to Noor Wali in the TTP hierarchy and head of the group’s Rehbari Shura. Authorities said he carried a Rs5 million bounty and was wanted for orchestrating multiple attacks inside Pakistan while operating from Afghan territory.
ISPR said troops ‘effectively engaged’ the infiltrators, preventing them from slipping into Pakistani territory. A sanitisation sweep was launched afterward to clear the vicinity and trace any additional fighters.
The statement accused TTP leaders based in Afghanistan of plotting cross-border incursions to project a false impression of domestic presence and rally demoralised cadres in Bajaur and Mohmand. It reiterated that the interim Afghan administration must act decisively to prevent its soil from being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Officials stressed that operations under the counter-terrorism drive ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ would continue at full pace until foreign-sponsored militancy is dismantled.
