PTI-backed candidate Khurram Zeeshan won a Senate by-election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 91 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed tallies announced at the provincial assembly. PML-N’s Taj Afridi secured 45 votes, while one ballot was declared invalid. Five candidates were in the fray.

The seat became vacant following the disqualification of PTI leader Shibli Faraz, who had also served as opposition leader in the upper house. Voting proceeded peacefully at the KP Assembly.

After the result, Zeeshan vowed to take his “battle” to Parliament and said his immediate priority was the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, arguing that political stability hinged on it. KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had earlier predicted on X that the PTI nominee would win by a wide margin.

The by-poll adds a fresh PTI-backed voice to the Senate amid an already polarised political landscape and ongoing legal cases against party leaders.
