A district and sessions court in Islamabad issued an arrest warrant for former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur after he again failed to appear in a 2016 liquor and illegal-arms case. Presided over by Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan, the court ordered authorities to arrest the PTI leader and present him on November 11, and adjourned the hearing until that date. The long-running case stems from the alleged recovery of five Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, six magazines, a bulletproof vest, three tear-gas shells and bottles of alcohol from a vehicle in October 2016. Gandapur was then a provincial minister and was booked under arms and anti-narcotics statutes. Gandapur has consistently rejected the allegations, maintaining the weapons were licensed and claiming the bottle described as liquor actually contained honey. The proceedings have repeatedly stalled due to his non-appearance, and the latest warrant adds to a series of similar orders issued against him this month.
