US President Donald Trump lauded Japan’s first female prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, during talks in Tokyo focused on security cooperation, trade and the supply of critical minerals. According to the White House, Takaichi plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, while Tokyo is expected to unveil a package of US investments this year that includes shipbuilding and increased purchases of American soybeans, natural gas and pickup trucks. People familiar with the discussions said the leaders also signed an agreement to bolster critical mineral supply chains, including rare earths used in electronics, batteries and defence equipment, to reduce reliance on China.
