Pakistan, Poland vow deeper trade, energy and defence cooperation

Pakistan and Poland reaffirmed plans to widen cooperation across trade, energy, defence, education, technology and fintech during a joint press interaction in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the two countries see "immense untapped potential" and noted bilateral trade already exceeds a billion dollars.

Dar announced two memoranda of understanding: one to institutionalise regular consultations between the foreign ministries and another to boost collaboration between Islamabad’s Institute of Strategic Studies and the Polish Institute of International Affairs. He highlighted Poland’s oil and gas expertise, saying a leading Polish energy firm has invested nearly half a billion dollars in Pakistan.

Recalling historic ties dating back to World War II, Dar paid tribute to Polish pilots and engineers, including Air Commodore Władysław Turowicz, for their contribution to Pakistan’s air force. He also sought Warsaw’s support for renewing Pakistan’s GSP+ trade preferences in the European Union, due in 2027, stressing the scheme advances sustainable development and governance.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski voiced support for a two-state solution in the Middle East and welcomed steps aimed at releasing hostages and prisoners. In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Polish companies to invest in energy, mining and information technology, as both sides agreed to deepen contacts to drive tangible projects forward.
