Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi left Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail without meeting incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan after prison authorities declined permission despite an Islamabad High Court directive. Earlier in the day, an IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar, and comprising Justices Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Azam Khan, ordered the superintendent to allow party leaders to meet Khan.
Afridi’s convoy was stopped near the Dahgal checkpoint outside the prison, prompting a brief sit-in by the chief minister, who demanded implementation of the court’s decision. Speaking to reporters, he said he sought policy guidance from the party founder and would abide by Khan’s instructions.
The court has previously restored twice-weekly meetings with the former prime minister—Tuesdays and Thursdays—under standard operating procedures, while prohibiting media talk by visitors after such meetings. Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case-I and faces a raft of other cases ranging from corruption to terrorism.
