Saudi hails Pakistan–Afghanistan truce as boost for regional stability

Saudi Arabia on Monday welcomed the immediate ceasefire agreed by Pakistan and Afghanistan during Qatar-mediated talks in Doha, calling it a vital step toward durable peace and regional stability. In a statement, the Kingdom’s foreign ministry voiced support for all regional and international efforts aimed at promoting peace and security, and appreciated the constructive diplomatic roles of Qatar and Türkiye.

The development followed days of deadly cross-border clashes. Pakistan’s defence minister said the sides would reconvene on October 25 in Istanbul to discuss detailed mechanisms to sustain the truce. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also said the parties had agreed to a complete and meaningful ceasefire, though he noted the statements do not constitute a joint declaration.

Pakistan has accused Afghanistan-based militants of staging attacks on its soil, while Kabul has rejected those claims and alleged Pakistani actions destabilise its security. The agreement, officials hope, will reduce tensions along the long and porous frontier and pave the way for confidence-building measures.
