PTI pushes PHC to ensure swift oath for KP CM-elect

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf urged the Peshawar High Court to ensure that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister-elect Sohail Afridi is administered the oath without delay, arguing the province cannot function indefinitely without a sworn executive. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja told reporters outside the court that, if the governor is unavailable, the chief justice can nominate another official to perform the ceremony under the constitution.

The petition follows Afridi’s election earlier in the day and a continuing dispute over the resignation of outgoing CM Ali Amin Gandapur, which Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has questioned on signature grounds. The court sought a report from the attorney general and adjourned the matter until Tuesday as PTI pressed for completion of the transition.

PTI maintained that the oath must be taken by October 14 to preserve administrative continuity, while the party continues to contest criticism from federal leaders over Afridi’s selection. The case underscores how political and procedural wrangling has complicated the handover at a sensitive moment for the province.
