PM Shehbaz hails Trump, Asim Munir as ‘men of peace’

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded US President Donald Trump as an “architect of peace” and praised Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying both leaders helped avert a potentially catastrophic conflict in South Asia. Speaking to Pakistani journalists in London after returning from high-level engagements in the United States and Saudi Arabia, the premier credited Trump’s direct intervention with preventing war between Pakistan and India. He said the government had nominated the US president for a peace prize in recognition of what he called real-time leadership and statesmanship. Sharif underlined close civil-military coordination, describing General Asim Munir as a visionary patriot and emphasizing that the government and military leadership were aligned on all major decisions. He also termed Pakistan’s recent defence agreement with Saudi Arabia a historic pact with global implications, projecting it as part of a broader message of peace and cooperation. Briefing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on his meetings with Trump and other world leaders, the premier expressed optimism over the outcomes of the Washington gathering where Muslim leaders discussed steps to end the Gaza war. He said Pakistan was actively engaged in efforts to bring humanitarian relief and a lasting ceasefire, and voiced hope that tangible progress would follow. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar accompanied him on the trip.
