Key points
- PTI has announced that its long march will begin from Lakki Marwat on October 4 and move through Karak and Kohat before reaching Peshawar on October 6.
- The march will be led by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and is aimed at pressing demands linked to Imran Khan’s cases, medical treatment and meeting restrictions.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has finalised plans to begin its long march from Lakki Marwat on October 4, setting a route that will bring the procession through southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa before it reaches Peshawar. The march is expected to become a major political test as the party presses its demands linked to its founder Imran Khan.
According to the announced schedule, the first stopover will be in Karak on October 4. The procession is then expected to move to Kohat on October 5 before leaving for Peshawar on October 6, where party mobilisation is likely to intensify.
PTI leaders said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will lead the march. He is expected to leave from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat at 1pm on October 4, marking the formal start of the procession.
Caravans from Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, South Waziristan and Bannu are expected to converge first in Lakki Marwat before joining the main march. This route gives the party a chance to consolidate support from southern districts before the procession moves toward central Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
PTI parliamentary party leader in the National Assembly Shahid Khattak and provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan confirmed that the chief minister would lead the march. Former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur is also expected to join the procession, adding further political weight to the mobilisation.
The march is being organised to press for faster hearings in cases against Imran Khan. Party leaders are also demanding his treatment at Shifa International Hospital and an end to restrictions on meetings with him.
The announcement comes amid already heightened political tension between the federal government and PTI. Earlier talks between government representatives and opposition figures were being watched as a possible way to reduce confrontation before the planned October 4 mobilisation.
The provincial chief minister is expected to issue a detailed schedule on Friday and brief members of the provincial assembly, party office-bearers and affiliated organisations. That briefing is likely to clarify how the party will coordinate caravans, security arrangements and district-level participation.
The next major question is whether the march proceeds as scheduled or whether negotiations produce any pause before October 4. With the route now announced and senior provincial leaders attached to the plan, the political temperature is likely to rise further in the coming days.
