The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has issued a fresh notification revising petroleum product prices, with both petrol and high-speed diesel becoming more expensive. The change was announced in Islamabad and will affect consumers across Pakistan at a time when fuel costs remain a major pressure point for households, transporters and businesses.

According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs2.10 per litre. After the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs392.76 per litre. The increase directly affects private motorists, motorcyclists, ride-hailing users and small businesses that rely on petrol-powered vehicles for daily operations.

High-speed diesel has also become costlier, though the increase is smaller than the petrol adjustment. The price of high-speed diesel has been raised by 30 paisas per litre, taking the new rate to Rs399.64 per litre. Diesel is widely used in goods transport, agriculture, public transport and power backup systems, making even small price movements important for broader cost calculations.

The revised petroleum prices will remain in effect until October 5, according to the Petroleum Division notification. This means the new rates will apply for the short pricing window unless another official revision is announced before or after that date.

The increase comes as fuel pricing continues to influence inflation expectations and public debate over household expenses. Petrol and diesel rates affect not only vehicle owners but also the cost of moving goods, commuting to work, operating generators and transporting essential supplies between cities and markets.

The announcement also refers to the Petrol Relief Scheme, under which motorcycle and Cingchi rickshaw owners can receive a Rs100 per litre discount on up to 20 litres of petrol per month. The scheme is intended to reduce the direct burden on low-income commuters and small transport operators who depend on fuel for daily earnings.

Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc are also eligible for discounted petrol under the relief arrangement. For this category, the discounted fuel limit is up to 30 litres per month, providing some relief to small-car owners who meet the registration requirements.

To register for discounted petrol, applicants are required to send an SMS to 9771 with the required details, including registration information and identification data. Once registered, users must request a token before visiting a petrol station and present the token number to claim the discounted fuel. A confirmation message is sent after the transaction is completed.
