The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices, with the revised rates set to take effect from September 30. The move brings a modest cut for consumers at a time when fuel costs remain a major concern for households, commuters and businesses across Pakistan.

According to the notification, the petrol price has been reduced by Rs1.49 per litre. After the latest adjustment, the new petrol price has been fixed at Rs387.54 per litre, giving motorists a small reduction in daily fuel expenses.

The diesel rate has also been lowered. The notification states that diesel has been cut by Rs2.73 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs402.24 per litre. Diesel pricing has a wider economic impact because it affects freight, agriculture, public transport and goods movement.

The revised petrol and diesel rates will apply from September 30. Consumers will therefore see the new prices reflected at fuel stations from the effective date announced in the notification.

The report also highlighted the Petrol Relief Scheme, under which motorcycle and Cingchi rickshaw owners can receive a Rs100 per litre discount on up to 20 litres of petrol per month. The scheme is aimed at smaller vehicle users who are more directly affected by fuel price pressure.

Owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc are also eligible under the scheme. They can receive discounted petrol on up to 30 litres per month, giving limited relief to low-consumption vehicle owners.

To register for discounted petrol, applicants must send an SMS to 9771 with the required details. The message should include REG, the applicant's CNIC number, vehicle registration number, province name information and vehicle registration date.

After registration is completed, applicants receive a confirmation message on their mobile phone. Before visiting a petrol station, they must send TOK to 9771, receive a token number by SMS and present that token at the petrol station to claim the discount. A confirmation message is sent after the transaction is completed.
