Independent Candidate Leads GBA-15 Diamer-I Re-Poll Count
Independent candidate Muhammad Dilpazir moved ahead in the unofficial and provisional count for the GBA-15 Diamer-I re-poll in Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday, securing 6,033 votes as counting updates continued. The development placed him at the front of a closely watched constituency contest that is now awaiting formal verification by election authorities.
According to the provisional tally, Dilpazir also secured 114 votes from the Thak Loshi Family Polling Station, one of the polling points included in the latest update. His overall lead has made the independent candidate the central figure in the constituency’s post-poll political calculations.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) candidate Mufti Wali-ur-Rehman stood in second position with 4,639 votes. The same polling station gave him 143 votes, keeping him in the race but leaving a gap between him and the independent front-runner.
The Pakistan Peoples Party’s Bashir Ahmed was placed third with 4,109 votes. The update showed that he did not receive any vote from the Thak Loshi Family Polling Station, a detail that could shape party assessments once the constituency-level results are reviewed more closely.
Pakistan Muslim League-N candidate Engineer Abdul Wajid was listed in fourth position with 3,271 votes, including 191 from the Thak Loshi Family Polling Station. His position reflects a competitive but fragmented contest in which independent and party-backed candidates are competing for influence in the Diamer seat.
Election officials have stressed that the figures remain unofficial and provisional. The final outcome will be announced by the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan after the completion of consolidation, scrutiny and verification of the constituency’s vote count.
The GBA-15 Diamer-I contest is politically important because Gilgit-Baltistan’s constituencies often carry local, tribal, developmental and party dimensions at the same time. Even a single assembly seat can influence political narratives in the region, particularly when independent candidates perform strongly against established parties.
For voters in Diamer, the result will determine who represents their constituency on issues such as infrastructure, public services, employment opportunities and access to government development schemes. A strong independent showing may also signal voter preference for local credibility over party affiliation.
The next stage will depend on the official consolidation of results and any objections that may be raised during the verification process. Until the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan issues the final notification, the figures will remain provisional and subject to formal confirmation.
