IHC Sets July 1 Start for Annual Summer Court Vacation

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has announced its annual summer vacation schedule for 2026, confirming that the court’s seasonal recess will begin on July 1 and continue until August 31.

The announcement was made through an official notification issued by Registrar Muhammad Yar Walana after approval from the Chief Justice. The notification sets the formal holiday period for the high court and informs lawyers, litigants and court staff about the upcoming change in the judicial calendar.

According to the schedule, regular court work at the Islamabad High Court will remain limited during the vacation period. As is customary during court recesses, urgent matters and cases requiring immediate judicial attention are expected to be dealt with under arrangements made by the court administration.

The development is important for legal practitioners and citizens with pending cases because summer vacations affect hearing dates, case listings and procedural timelines. Lawyers representing clients before the IHC will now have to plan filings, urgent applications and follow-up hearings around the notified schedule.

The Lahore High Court has also announced its summer vacation period separately. According to the available schedule, holidays at the LHC will be observed from July 6 to September 5, creating a broadly similar seasonal break across major superior courts.

Annual summer vacations are a long-standing part of Pakistan’s superior court calendar. They are generally observed during the hottest months of the year, when court operations are adjusted while limited benches continue to handle urgent matters, constitutional petitions, bail applications and time-sensitive cases.

For the justice system, such notifications serve an administrative purpose beyond holidays. They help court branches, bar associations, litigants and government departments prepare for reduced regular hearings while ensuring that essential judicial access is not completely suspended.

The IHC’s notification will also matter for federal government departments, regulatory bodies and public institutions that regularly appear before the court.
