Bahawalnagar TikToker Arrested Over AI Deepfake Video

Police in Bahawalnagar have arrested a male TikToker for allegedly creating and sharing an AI-generated obscene video of a rival female content creator, bringing renewed attention to the growing misuse of artificial intelligence on social media platforms in Pakistan. The case was registered by Bahawalnagar Saddar police after the woman filed a complaint over the alleged fake video and online humiliation.

According to the FIR, the suspect, identified as Zain, is a resident of village 430/6R and allegedly worked with an unidentified accomplice to create the fabricated video. The complainant, who is also a TikToker and runs a beauty salon in village 37/3R, told police the video was uploaded on social media to damage her reputation and harass her publicly.

The report says the dispute escalated after the woman confronted the suspect about the alleged deepfake content. Police sources said the accused then used abusive language and allegedly issued threats, prompting the complainant to approach law enforcement and seek action against those involved.

Officials said Zain was taken into custody after the complaint was filed, while police have started an investigation to trace the unidentified accomplice. Investigators are expected to examine social media uploads, digital devices and the circumstances under which the video was allegedly created and circulated.

Police sources said the suspect had admitted uploading the fabricated content because of jealousy, as the rival TikToker’s videos were reportedly receiving more views than his. The claim, if proven in court, would point to how competition for online popularity can turn into targeted harassment when digital tools are used to attack a person’s dignity and public image.

The case is significant because AI-generated explicit or defamatory content has become a rising concern worldwide, particularly for women and young creators who depend on social media for visibility, income and professional identity. In Pakistan, such incidents can carry serious personal, social and legal consequences because victims often face stigma even when the material is fake.
