Pakistan locks in fuel supplies through April 25

Pakistan has lined up petroleum supplies through April 25, easing immediate concerns over fuel availability despite persistent regional tensions around major shipping routes.

Officials told Geo News that local refineries are running at roughly 80% to 100% capacity, while imports from Oman and other regional hubs have strengthened stock positions. Pakistan imported three petrol cargoes and one diesel shipment from Oman in March, with two more petrol cargoes expected before month-end.

Authorities said Pakistan State Oil is also exploring additional purchases with Oman Trading International to stay ahead of rising demand. PARCO is operating at full capacity, while National Refinery Limited and Pakistan Refinery Limited have raised utilisation levels after earlier pressure on crude supplies.

The broader strategy reflects Islamabad’s effort to shield domestic markets from fallout linked to the US-Israel-Iran conflict and possible disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Officials maintain that contingency planning and diversified sourcing have helped Pakistan avoid the tighter supply conditions seen elsewhere in the region.
