Sindh considers smart lockdown to conserve fuel amid crisis

Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah says the provincial government is considering a smart lockdown as part of a broader fuel-conservation strategy linked to regional instability and pressure on oil supplies. Speaking in Sukkur, he said the current situation is abnormal and warned that a prolonged conflict could create wider hardships.

The minister said fuel allocations for government vehicles had already been cut significantly and that daily reviews were being held to assess conditions. Under a smart lockdown model, restrictions can be imposed on selected neighbourhoods or zones instead of shutting down entire cities.

The proposal fits into Sindh's wider austerity plan, which already includes school closures for a limited period, work-from-home Fridays for government offices, reduced official transport usage, salary sacrifices by ministers and curbs on non-essential government spending and ceremonies.
