PM orders export plan for surplus food to Gulf markets

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed officials to prepare a detailed plan for exporting Pakistan’s surplus food items to Gulf countries while ensuring that local demand remains fully protected. During a meeting in Lahore, the government reviewed food security conditions and assessed how regional disruptions are reshaping export opportunities for Pakistani producers.

Officials told the prime minister that the country currently has sufficient stocks of essential commodities and that the agricultural sector has strong potential in crops, meat, poultry, dairy and seafood. Shehbaz Sharif stressed that exports must meet high standards and should not come at the cost of domestic availability.

He also directed the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to support maritime exports and asked a dedicated committee to monitor the situation daily. Pakistani ambassadors and trade officers in Gulf states were told to remain active so that any opening in regional markets can be converted into practical export gains.
