Pakistan has completed its Next Generation Mobile Services spectrum auction, with the telecom regulator finalising the position assignment of acquired 5G blocks after the main bidding round.
Officials said the process generated a total of $510 million, or roughly Rs142.6 billion, for the national exchequer. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said 480 MHz of spectrum was sold, while the final placement round added another $3 million to the overall proceeds.
Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said 5G pilot projects are expected to begin in major cities next week, with wider commercial rollout planned in the coming months. Authorities said the added spectrum should improve internet performance significantly, with average speeds projected to rise from about 4 Mbps to nearly 20 Mbps.
