Pakistan urges ceasefire at UN over Middle East conflict

Pakistan told the United Nations Security Council that the conflict in the Middle East was inflicting heavy humanitarian and economic costs and called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations.

Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the crisis was endangering civilians, damaging critical infrastructure and creating wider instability across the region. He said Pakistan backed draft resolutions presented by Bahrain and Russia that called for restraint, an end to hostilities and renewed diplomacy.

The envoy also drew attention to the conflict's direct consequences for Pakistan, saying Pakistani nationals were among the casualties in attacks in the UAE and that fuel supplies, energy access and aviation links had been disrupted. He said Islamabad remained in close contact with regional and international partners and urged all sides to de-escalate immediately.
