Pakistan is set to begin 5G pilot services in major cities next week after completing the second phase of its spectrum auction. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima said the government expects full 5G services to begin in major urban centres within the coming months.
According to ProPakistani, the auction concluded with 480 MHz of spectrum sold, with expected proceeds of around $510 million, or roughly Rs. 142 billion. Officials said positioning in the 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands has now been finalized, clearing a major procedural hurdle for rollout.
The government says the expansion will significantly increase Pakistan’s available spectrum and strengthen national connectivity. Authorities also linked the development to support from the PTA, the Frequency Allocation Board and related institutions, while noting that additional submarine cables and spectrum clearance steps have improved readiness for deployment.
Officials believe the immediate effect will be better 4G performance, followed by phased 5G adoption. The move is being presented as a major telecom milestone with implications for digital services, business activity and broader internet quality across Pakistan.
