Pakistan vows support for Saudi Arabia amid tensions

Pakistan has reiterated that it will stand by Saudi Arabia if circumstances in the Middle East worsen, as regional tensions continue to rise following attacks involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

Speaking publicly on the issue, Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media Mohsarraf Zaidi said it was beyond doubt that Islamabad would come to Riyadh’s assistance whenever required. He framed the position within the longstanding principle that both countries support one another in times of need.

The remarks come after Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a strategic mutual defence agreement last year. Pakistani officials have also said they are working diplomatically to keep the conflict from spreading and to prevent Gulf countries from being drawn deeper into direct confrontation.

Zaidi also said Saudi Arabia has helped make arrangements to support Pakistan’s oil and diesel supply since the outbreak of the crisis, as the closure of key shipping routes has raised fears of broader energy disruption. Pakistani officials say they remain engaged with Tehran through diplomatic channels in an effort to lower the risk of escalation.
