Fresh rain and snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan triggered landslides that blocked the Karakoram Highway at several locations between Diamer and Kohistan, disrupting travel on one of Pakistan’s most important road links.
The report said thousands of passengers were left stranded overnight, including patients, elderly travelers, and children. Police said the debris spread across multiple points from Barseen in Upper Kohistan to Pattan in Lower Kohistan.
District authorities said the road would remain closed until weather conditions improve enough for cleanup operations to begin. The Frontier Works Organisation is expected to carry out the clearance work once access becomes safe.
