The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to work with the federal government on launching the Peshawar Valley Railway, a proposed rail project aimed at improving transport links across the province. Officials described the plan as a major step that could reshape mobility and regional connectivity.
According to the official communication sent to Pakistan Railways, initial feasibility work has already begun. The first phase covers the Peshawar-Nowshera-Jahangir corridor, while later phases are expected to extend links to Mardan, Dargai, Charsadda, Jamrud and Kohat.
The provincial administration is also examining the use of diesel multiple units and railcars on existing infrastructure. If implemented, the project would expand public transport capacity and could strengthen trade, commuting and inter-city movement within KP.
