The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) has intensified work on the K-IV water pipeline at Nipa in an effort to meet the project timeline. Teams are now aiming to install two major pipes each day along the route.
Officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) said pipeline installation is being carried out on a 2.7-kilometre corridor that overlaps with the BRT Red Line alignment. They said the work has entered a final stage despite technical constraints and safety challenges in a congested area.
KW&SC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui apologised to residents, shopkeepers, commuters and students for disruption linked to excavation and promised efforts to complete the job as quickly as possible.
Project representatives said excavation is being done up to around six metres deep in a zone packed with underground utilities, including water and sewerage lines, gas pressure lines and power cables, leaving limited working space in some sections. They said the work had faced interruptions in November after incidents of utility damage, but progress has since regained pace and 36 pipes have been laid so far.
Officials reiterated that the K-IV scheme, described as a major Sindh government and KW&SC initiative, is expected to add around 260 million gallons per day to Karachi’s supply. They said updates on daily progress are being shared through official channels, including the corporation’s website and social media.
