The Punjab government has approved a province-wide initiative to provide free transportation for deceased persons from hospitals to their homes, marking the first time such a service will be offered by the provincial administration.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where officials were instructed to submit a detailed rollout plan for major public hospitals and across all tehsils.
Under the plan, at least one government vehicle will be allocated in each tehsil for this purpose. Families will be able to request the service by calling emergency helpline 1122 or via designated hospital counters.
The government framed the initiative as a public facilitation measure aimed at reducing the logistical and financial burden on families during emergencies and bereavement.
