Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party had been assured that former prime minister Imran Khan’s family would be provided his medical report after a sit-in outside the Supreme Court and a meeting with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
PTI staged the protest to press for permission to meet the jailed party founder after reports surfaced that he had been taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) for a medical check. Raja told reporters in Islamabad that the assurances were secured after discussions involving the chief justice and the attorney general, though he described the outcome as short of what the party wanted.
Raja said the family, including Imran Khan’s sisters, would receive the report, and he added that the party was told personal doctors could be allowed access to Imran at Adiala Jail once the report was issued. After these assurances, PTI ended its hours-long demonstration outside the apex court.
The developments followed days of conflicting accounts about Imran Khan’s health. Reports had claimed he was briefly treated for an eye infection and returned to jail, while family members disputed the claim. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar later confirmed that Imran had been taken to Pims after specialists examined him at the jail and advised further assessment. Tarar said a short procedure was performed after consent, but Raja alleged the treatment took place without Imran’s wishes being respected.
Separately, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said Imran Khan was in good health and that jail authorities were providing standard facilities, arguing that not every development warranted an official statement.
