Sameer Minhas leads Pakistan U19 to convincing win over New Zealand

Pakistan Under-19 defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in their Super Six match of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, chasing down a modest target with plenty of overs to spare.

Sameer Minhas anchored the chase with an unbeaten 76 as Pakistan reached the 111-run target in 17.1 overs, losing two wickets.

Earlier, Pakistan’s pace attack dismantled New Zealand’s innings after the Kiwis started reasonably well. New Zealand were reduced from 59 for 1 to 110 all out as Pakistan took wickets in a rush, including a stretch in which the bowlers grabbed six wickets for eight runs.

New Zealand lost their first wicket early when opener Marco William Alpe fell for 2 with 11 on the board after a strike from Ali Raza. Hugo Paul Bogue played an aggressive cameo and, along with captain Thomas Coney Jones, added 48 runs for the second wicket to take New Zealand to 59 for 1 in 7.4 overs.

The momentum shifted sharply when Mohammad Sayyam removed Bogue for 39 off 27 balls. Abdul Subhan then dismissed Jones for 15, and Pakistan’s bowlers continued to strike as New Zealand slid to 67 for 7, with Snehith Reddy, Jacob James Cotter, Jaskaran Sandhu and Brandon Nicholas Matzopoulos all falling cheaply.

A brief stand involving Callum Michael Samson and Mason Clarke was broken when spinner Momin Qamar took Samson’s wicket, leaving New Zealand eight down at 84. Clarke and Hunter Shore pushed the score past 100, but Subhan returned to end the partnership by dismissing Clarke for 17. Shore was the last batter out after scoring 13.

Subhan finished with four wickets for 11 runs, while Raza took three for 36. Sayyam and Qamar claimed a wicket apiece as Pakistan set up a straightforward chase completed comfortably by their top order.
