Punjab to connect public hospitals’ CCTV with Safe Cities monitoring network

The Punjab government has ordered public hospitals to connect their CCTV surveillance systems to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), aiming to strengthen security and improve emergency response in high-traffic medical facilities.

Under the directive, cameras installed in emergency departments and outpatient areas of hospitals managed by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department will be integrated with the PSCA’s command-and-control network. The system is used for real-time monitoring and is intended to support faster response during incidents while also helping with evidence collection when needed.

Instructions were issued to medical university leadership, teaching hospitals, specialised institutions and administrators to ensure compliance. Hospitals have also been told to facilitate PSCA technical teams, including coordination with teams based in Lahore for the integration process.

Where existing surveillance coverage is inadequate, hospitals have been advised to expand camera installations to achieve broader monitoring. Officials said the move is designed to deter violence against healthcare workers, reduce theft and misuse of public assets, and improve oversight in sensitive areas such as emergency wards.

Authorities described the step as part of Punjab’s wider push to expand technology-driven public safety measures, with implementation expected to begin promptly through joint coordination between hospital administrations and PSCA teams.
