PTI moves to unseat Saifullah Abro over 27th Amendment vote

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a disqualification reference against Senator Saifullah Abro, asking Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani to initiate proceedings under Article 63A after the senator allegedly voted against the party line on the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

PTI Senator Ali Zafar said the party had formally declared Abro to have defected, arguing that the parliamentary party had decided in advance to oppose any move linked to the 27th Amendment and that the direction was communicated to senators in writing.

The party noted that the Senate vote on the amendment took place on November 10, 2025, and claimed Abro backed the changes despite PTI’s stated opposition. The reference seeks onward action that could eventually be placed before the Election Commission.

Responding to the move, Abro rejected the allegation that he violated party instructions, saying he had not received any letter, show-cause notice, or formal communication. He also claimed PTI did not truly oppose the amendment and criticised the party’s internal functioning, alleging that he was sidelined in committee leadership decisions despite being proposed for a key post.
