Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal said Pakistan has reported 30 poliovirus cases so far in 2025, a sharp reduction from 74 last year. He announced the final national polio campaign of the year will run from December 15 to 21 and aims to vaccinate more than 45 million children.
Over 400,000 frontline workers will take part in the drive, the minister said, while acknowledging persistent challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the majority of cases (19) have been found. Traces of the virus have also been detected in several major cities, underscoring the need for repeated vaccinations and timely routine immunisation.
The government reiterated its commitment to eradication, stressing stronger outreach, community engagement and support from scholars and elected representatives to improve coverage and counter access constraints in high-risk areas.
